On Dec 1, 1945, after a 20-year campaign by The La Jolla Conservation Society and its then president Mrs. Morrison Hopkins, the members of REBA officially signed an agreement not to use signs in La Jolla.Hilda Barringer, who’s beautiful hand painted signs were a source of pride, was the last holdout.
Today, the members of REBA keep La Jolla beautiful as it largely remains free of for sale signs. This is something that the residents tell us they appreciate as it frees La Jolla from the blight of signs seen in other communities and a offers sense of security to those whose homes are being marketed.
